Protect Yourself on Giving Tuesday
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving has become known as Giving Tuesday, where people are encouraged to generously give time and money to their local community.
Please be careful, especially on the phone and email when you are asked to give.
The NC Secretary of State regulated charitable solicitations in NC. Here is their page, with tips on how to check to see if a charity is legit, and Smart Donor tips.
Some charities sound really good, but when you dig into their practices, very little funds go to the people needing assistance and a lot of the collected funds goes to administrative expenses. Charity Navigator is a good place to find out how your charity spends your gift.
The NC Attorney General's office also has some tips for safe giving and avoiding other holiday scams.
