Being Less Scattered
2020 is the fire hose that has blown away how and where we used to work. I find I am scattered. What about you?
Here are some ways that I improve my focus:
1. Eliminate distractions. Easier said than done when we’re working from home and there is no school, camp or daycare. I often get up early and get a few hours in before everyone else wakes up.
2. Stop Multi-Tasking. I have learned the hard way that I can’t truly concentrate on more than one thing at a time. One thing always suffers and gets what is left of my brain power rather than my best effort. I end up tired and frazzled.
3. Focus on the physical. If I am too revved up, I take some deep breaths and take a couple minutes of mindfulness. If I am too sluggish, I stand up and tap my head and then my shoulders for a few minutes. Sometimes I take a walk. Stay hydrated and eat at regular intervals.
4. Keep a To-Do list. Mine is simple and low tech: a Post-it note As I think of things I need to do, I jot it down, and keep going on my task. Share your tips with us.
